Distant Places

Recently Purchased Items: November

I know it is only the beginning of November, but I recently went on a shopping trip with my mom and aunt on my day off from school. It was so much fun, mostly because we got to spend time in Free People, which is my favorite store. The pieces Free People carries are so unique, intricate, and quirky; whenever I walk into their store I get sort of panicky and think that I need to own every single item on display. Although Free People is pricey, there are some pieces there that I do not mind spending full price on. For one, their jeans, because not only are they super comfortable and stretchy, but they are also extremely flattering--it must be the fact that the back pockets have no detailing on them whatsoever. Another item I would definitely splurge on at Free People would be their dresses; they carry some of the most beautiful, affordable dresses. For some reason every year at New Years I find myself wearing one of their dresses (coincidence?). That being said, I did purchase two items on my trip to Free People that I am absolutely in love with. The first, a simple long sleeve cropped shirt with crochet detailing to wear everyday; the second, a New Year's dress (surprise, surprise).
I am in love with this dress. At first, my vision for New Years was something with lots of sequins and lace, but when I tried this dress on I fell in love. I love the fact that it is long sleeved and high-necked, but has a really low back (which you cannot tell from the picture). I am probably going to pair this dress with either a sequin belt from Anthropologie, or some layered necklaces (fun shoes are a given).

Next on our trip we went to Urban Outfitters. I never usually have too much luck there but I decided to pick up two things:
A cropped corset
And these awesome black lace pants! Thus ending my shopping trip.

Makeup Mania: My Top Picks

There is something very alluring about makeup, maybe it is the fact that it promises to make you beautiful, or the fact that it comes in really cute packaging. Nonetheless, I have been obsessed with makeup lately! I have discovered that high-end eyeshadows are always worth the splurge, while drugstore mascaras work just as well as pricier ones. I have still been loving my Urban Decay Naked Palette, and use it on an every day basis.

Some of my other favorites?
Benefit High Beam Highlighter (to highlight the cheekbones and cupid's bow)
Urban Decay Primer Potion in "Sin" (to apply to the eyelid before eyeshadow)
L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes in "Black" (two coats to lengthen lashes)
Maybelline Falsies Mascara in "Black" (two coats to thicken lashes)
Prestige Liquid Eyeliner in "Black" (for the "cat-eye" effect)

My go to eyeshadows lately have been "Sin" (to highlight) "Sidecar" (for all over the lid) and "Buck" (to define the crease).

One can also never forget the iconic MAC Lipsticks; my preferences are mostly nude colors. Above are my favorites: "Myth" "Viva Glam Gaga 5" and "Creme de Nude" respectively.

Fall Trends

I am going crazy for the fall trends this season. One thing never changes when this season rolls around: layers, layers, layers. Cozy sweaters and warm scarves are a give in, but have you tried trading in your pea coat for a cape? your stockings for some leg warmers or thigh-high knee socks? Also, since the holidays are coming up, you cannot forget glitter and sequins! Here are some trends I have been loving this fall:

1. Cape
This cape from Forever 21 is perfect!
Not only are capes so cozy and warm, they give off a Parisian vibe and are perfect paired over a cozy sweater dress, some opaque tights, and some knee-high boots!

2. Over-sized Clutch
Today I was a Free People and absoutley fell in LOVE with this clutch. I would have splurged on it, but I didn't have the money!

4. Leg Warmers and Thigh-High Socks
I love the way leg warmers or thigh-high socks look over tights and paired with a fitted black dress. For some reason it just brings me back to my private school days! Leg accessories such as these are definitely BIG for fall this year along with other patterned legware (patterned tights anyone?)
How to wear leg warmers/thigh-high socks:
Pair them over sheer black or opaque black tights with a flowy or bodycon dress, your favorite cape (or motorcycle jacket!), and your favorite fall boots! There are so many possibilities!

5. Cheetah!
Okay, so I have been on the hunt for a cheetah scarf for the past two months and have had no luck; it is on the top of my list for trends to try this season. I love the way cheetah scarves look paired with a simple outfit! Also in this season are cheetah loafers! I found a pair at my local Marshalls but they were sadly out of my size :(

6. Sequins
There is something about this season that makes me want to wear as much sequins as possible. Whether it is on my nails, my wrist, around my neck, or on my feet, you will almost always see me in something sparkly. Brands like Juicy Couture, J. Crew, Free People, Betsey Johnson, and Anthropologie are also picking up on this trend. Here are some sequin pieces that I have been obsessed with lately:

This Crystal Brulee bracelet from J.Crew will be perfect for New Year's Eve paired with any dress you are wearing! It can also be cute for every day, paired with a casual fitted blazer, some skinny jeans, and oxfords!

This dress from Free People is the perfect New Year's Eve dress! Wearing this opulent champagne-colored dress would be the perfect way to ring in the new year! If you wanted to wear this dress more than once (maybe to a concert?) Free People carries it in black as well. The black would definitely be more versatile: you can pair is with some tights, a motorcycle jacket, and your favorite wedges!

I feel as though there are so many trends to try this season that it would be impossible to list them all! Remember to always keep in mind what works for you and your personal style, and if you happen to not like the trends this season, there is always next season!

Date Night Outfit :)

I just thought I would share this quick post of the outfit I wore on a date with my boyfriend on Friday night :) The blue dress and cream slip are from Free People, the belt is from Anthropologie, and the cardigan is from Billabong! I also brought a clutch that was a free gift from Victorias Secret a long time ago, but I thought the silver shimmer on the clutch matched the silver shimmer on my belt! As for shoes, I just wore plain black flip-flops..I know, I'm boring! hahaha

Recently Purchased Items: September

September was a whirlwind for me. Starting school, getting used to doing homework every night, working, babysitting, so many things were going on! It is a suprise to me that I even found time to shop!. Here are a couple things I picked up over the past month! :)
Some Forever21 accessories :)

Fringed vest=yes (got this at Marshalls)

Hilary Duff "With Love" perfume in 0.5oz and this really cute
vase from Anthropologie to hold some of my makeup brushes!

I have been eyeing this belt at Anthropologie for such a long time, I finally bought it!
I am so excited, I love shimmer/glitter :)

I needed a bigger makeup bag so I bought this Betsey Johnson one, so cute!

I got these "Miss America" shoes for homecoming. Ah! They are so sparkly and I am in love.

I have been wanting this Revlon Lipstick in "Primrose" forever! Perfect pink color.

I decided I had to get one of these jackets for fall, I got this one from Macys!

Can never go wrong with a nice flannel for fall, this one is Abercrombie and Fitch but
I purchased it for $17 bucks at Marshalls, awesome!
These Libby Edelman boots are amazing, I got them at Marshalls! I love the studs :)

New Mac Palette

Receiving my first Mac Palette in the mail was probably one of the most exciting days of my life. Not only is Mac an iconic makeup brand, but the quality of their makeup is always amazing. I was impressed by the pigmentation and smoothness of these shadows, and have been wearing them every single day. Here are a couple pictures of my palette and makeup look I created with the shadows :) (I definitely plan of filling up the rest of my palette soon...I'm obsessed now!)

"All the Glitters"

For the makeup look I used a flat shader brush and applied "All that Glitters" to the inner third of my eye and the tear duct. I then took that same flat shader brush and applied "Honeylust" to the middle third of my eye. Then I used a crease brush and applied "Sketch" to the outer third of my eye and into my crease in a wind-shield-wiper motion. Then I just applied some black eyeliner to the outer third of my upper lash line and finished it all off with three coats of L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara :)
